Game 1
Northeast: 0
Metro: 2
In the first game of the boys soccer showcase, Metro defeated Northeast 2-0. Metro got off to an early lead thanks to a goal from Mario Ramirez (Revere, Revere HS) assisted by Oscar Martinez (Revere, Revere HS). It remained 1-0 until 1:25 left in the 2nd half when Joao Victor Cunha (Revere, Revere HS) passed it to Angel Ortez (Everett, Everett HS) to put the finishing touches on the game.
Game 2
West: 1
Southeast/Coastal: 0
In a close game all the way through, West finally broke the tie with 5:25 left in the second half thanks to a goal by Cole Bamford (Ludlow, Ludlow HS).
Game 3
Northeast: 2
West: 2
Northeast went up 2-0 in the first half thanks to two goals from Ryan Lovasco (Beverly, Essex Agricultural & Technical HS), both assisted by Phillip Renzullo (Lynn, St. Mary's HS). West came storming back in the 2nd half with two goals from Cole Bamford (Ludlow, Ludlow HS). The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Saturday, July 9
Game 4
West: 1
Metro: 1
In a battle of unbeatens, West got off to an early start with a goal from Cole Bamford (Ludlow, Ludlow HS). Metro didn’t back down and they tied up the game with 8 minutes left in the game with a goal from Olgidio Contreras (Waltham, Waltham HS). The game ended in 1-1 tie.
Game 5
Southeast/Coastal: 1
Northeast: 0
The game was deadlocked for 55 minutes until Diego Silva (South Dartmouth, Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical HS) broke the tie and put Southeast/Coastal up 1-0. Northeast was unable to tie it up and Southeast/Coastal hung on for the 1-0 victory.
Game 6
Metro: 1
Southeast/Coastal: 1
In the final round robin game of the tournament Metro and Southeast/Coastal had a battle with medal games on the line. Metro took the lead 1-0 with a goal from Rogerio Filho (Boston, East Boston HS). In the 2nd half, Southeast/Coastal tied it up with a goal from Cameron Freitas (Somerset, Somerset-Berkley Regional HS). The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Bronze Medal Game
Southeast/Coastal: 2
Northeast: 0
Southeast/Coastal came out on fire with a goal scored by Kaiden Soares (South Dartmouth, Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical HS) 2 minutes into the game. Tyler Chang (Acushnet, Fairhaven HS) added to the Southeast/Coastal lead scoring a goal with 4 minutes left in the first half. Northeast fought hard to attempt a comeback but they were unsuccessful, and Southeast/Coastal took home the bronze medal.
Gold Medal Game
Metro: 2
West: 3 (PK)
The boys soccer tournament ended with the most thrilling gold medal match. This rematch was back and forth the entire game with multiple shots and opportunities on both sides. West’s
Cole Bamford (Ludlow, Ludlow HS), was once again unstoppable. He had scored all of the goals for West in the round robin games and added another as he sped his way to an early goal for West. Metro was able to retaliate and score to tie up the game, and with 1 minute left into the half they added another goal to head into half with a 2-1 lead over West. Metro looked to hold on to their lead, but West’s
Riley Intrator (Florence, Smith Academy) scored to tie up the match. Nearing the end of regulation it was clear this game would head into extra time. Both teams fought hard in extra time, but as both teams remained scoreless, the game headed to a penalty kick shootout. The crowd was silent as each player made their way to the penalty box. Both teams scored on their first penalty kick, but in the second, Metro was stopped while West made the goal. Both teams scored again for their third and fourth kicks. West was stopped in their final kick. If Metro scored on their final kick, penalty kicks would continue. West goalie made the stop to secure the win. West won the gold medal and Metro won silver.
