HIGH SCHOOL SPIRIT CHALLENGE

Since 1982, athletic directors from across Massachusetts have supported the Bay State Games by informing their student-athletes and coaches about the athletic and educational opportunities available at Bay State Games.

In appreciation of the support received from high school athletic directors, Bay State Games has created the High School Spirit Challenge. This program provides valuable funds to support Massachusetts high school athletics and thank those schools who support the Bay State Games.

Based on school enrollment, three schools will each be eligible for a $1,000 grant. Within each enrollment size category, the school with the highest number of athletes registered for Bay State Summer Games will receive funds to support their athletic program.

The program commences when Summer Games registration opens in March and concludes when registration closes for the last Bay State Games event in late July. There is no obligation or enrollment required to be part of the program. We ask only that athletic director help promote the Games to their student athletes during the course of the school year. School enrollment status will be tracked based on Bay State Summer Games registration records and schools receiving grants will be informed in August.

Based upon enrollment, all schools will be placed in one of three categories:

  • Small = 500 students and under
  • Medium = 501-999 students
  • Large = 1,000 students or more

*based on school census numbers for current school year

  • Grants are awarded to schools based on student participation levels in the Bay State Summer Games.
  • The program will commence with the start of Bay State Summer Games registration and end with the conclusion of the Summer Games
  • Any preparatory, private or public school in Massachusetts is eligible to win a grant.
  • Results will be periodically tabulated and winners will be announced at the end of the Summer Games.
  • Each time a high school aged student registers to participate in the Summer Games they will be asked to declare their high school. This will count as one (1)  vote for their school.
  • Within each school size category, the school with the most students will receive a grant of $1,000.
  • Numbers are based on tryout registration for showcase sports & finals numbers for all other sports, individual/festival.

  • MA largest multi-sport festival
  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Recruiting opportunities
  • Recruiting seminar
  • Involvement in other programs: High School Ambassador Program, Athlete of the Year, Sportsmanship Program

Within each school size category, the school with the most students will receive a grant of $1,000.
