Tuesday, July 5

Game 1

Central: 5

Southeast: 6


In the first game of the tournament, it was a good one all the way through. Southeast walked it off on a Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Walpole HS) RBI double in the 7th to win the first game of the tournament.


Game 2

Metro: 0

Northeast: 1


Scoreless until the 7th, Nathan Dietenhofer (Salisbury, Whittier Tech) walked off on an RBI single to win 1-0. Lukasz Rondeau (Windham N.H., Central Catholic HS) pitched a 7 inning 1 hit shutout to capture the win for Northeast.


Game 3

Metro: 4

West: 1


Metro, led by an Antonio Zermani (Winchester, Winchester HS) inside the park 3 run homer propelled them to a 4-1 win over the West who was only able to get 2 hits the entire game. Will Cacciatore (Lexington, Austin Prep) and Greg Mayo (Dorchester, Archbishop Williams HS) combined to hold West to only 1 run on 2 hits.


Game 4

Coastal: 2

Central: 0

Noah Pratt went the distance as Coastal defeated Central 2-0. Andrew Johnson (Salisbury, Triton Regional HS) and Aidan Blake (Pembroke, Pembroke HS) both had RBI singles to give Coastal their 2 runs.


Game 5

Northeast: 13

Coastal: 8


Jack Sullivan (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) and Connor Stick (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) each scored 3 times as Northeast defeated Coastal 13-8 to improve to 2-0. Coastal’s big inning came in the 3rd where they scored 7 runs. Jaden Lovell (East Bridgewater, East Bridgewater HS) and Aidan Blake (Pembroke, Pembroke HS) each with multiple RBIs but it wasn’t enough to overcome the onslaught of Northeast.


Game 6

Southeast: 6

West: 5


West got off to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning capped of by Matthew Nordstrom (Wilbraham, Minnechaug Regional HS) 2-run triple. Southeast came back with a Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Walpole HS )2-run triple of his own to make it 3-2. Game was close until the end when Jack Reyes (Weymouth, Weymouth HS) hit a 2 run single to take the lead as Southeast held on to defeat West 6-5.


Wednesday, July 6

Game 7

Northeast: 7

Southeast: 4


Northeast got off to a fast start by scoring 3 runs in the first thanks to take a 3-0 lead. Marco Carrillo (Byfield, Bishop Feehan HS) pitched 3 shutout innings and Anthony Herbert Jr. (Peabody, Bishop Fenwick HS) also pitched well in relief. Jake Maturo (Millis, Bellingham HS) hit a 2 run single for Southeast as they scored 2 runs in the 4th. Northeast pulled away and won 7-4.


Game 8

West: 7

Coastal: 8


In a tight back and forth game Coastal got a 2 run single from Aidan Blake (Pembroke, Pembroke HS) to go up 8-3 in the bottom of the 6th. West didn’t back down as they scored 4 in the 7th to make it a one run game before Sean Kenn (East Bridgewater, East Bridgewater HS) shut the door giving Coastal the 8-7 win.


Game 9

Northeast: 9

Central: 3


Jake Gilbo (Georgetown, Georgetown HS) and Michael Petro (Peabody, Peabody Veterans HS) each had 2 hits and scored 2 runs as Northeast defeated Central 9-3. Jack Sullivan (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) hit a solo shot in the 5th to extend their lead as Central was never able to catch up. Drew Nestor (Tewksbury, Tewksbury HS) and David Tracy (Lynnfield, Lynnfield HS) were able to hold Central to only 3 runs on 4 hits. Northeast finished the day with a perfect 4-0 record heading into the final day of the tournament.


Game 10

Southeast: 10

Metro: 4


Southeast scored 6 in the first inning to build their lead and didn’t look back. With some stellar pitching from Christopher Frost (Brockton, Brockton HS) and Jack Reyes (Weymouth, Weymouth HS), Southeast won comfortably 10-4.


Game 11

Metro: 1

Coastal: 4


Will Dionne (Somerset, Somerset-Berkley Regional HS) and Robert Higdon (Lynnfield, Lynnfield HS) pitched great for Coastal as they held Metro to one run over 7 innings. The scoring for Coastal came from Luke Barry (Bridgewater, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional HS) who provided a 2-run double in the 1st. Peter Rubini (Lakeville, Apponequet Regional HS) added an RBI single that scored Joey Foley (East Bridgewater, East Bridgewater HS).


Game 12

West: 11

Central: 12


In a crazy back and forth game, Noah Pratt (Rutland, Wachusett Regional HS) hit a single that scored 2 to give Central the 12-9 lead going into the 7th. West fought back and make it 12-11 thanks to a Zach Redlund (Salisbury, Berkshire School) 2-run single, but Central was able to shut it down and escape with the victory as Matthew Kelly (Millbury, Millbury Jr/Sr HS) closed it out.


Thursday, July 7

Game 13

Central: 5

Metro: 2


In their final game of the tournament, Central held on to defeat Metro. A full team effort with stellar pitching from Zack Fritze (Spencer, Bay Path Regional HS) and Cam Early (Worcester, Doherty Memorial HS), they won 5-2. Metro ended the tournament in fifth with a 1-4 record, while Central secured 4th with a 2-3 record.


Game 14

Coastal: 6

Southeast: 10


In what turned into the silver medal game, Southeast defeated Coastal. Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Walpole HS) and Andrew Daley (Weymouth, Weymouth HS) each scored twice and Paul McLaughlin (Milton, Boston College HS) added 2 hits. Coastal had a big 5th inning scoring 6 runs but it wasn’t enough as Southeast kept scoring. Southeast won silver, Coastal earned bronze.


Game 15

West: 10

Northeast: 13


Northeast looking to go 5-0 and capture the gold medal as they took on West in the final game of the tournament. West got off to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a Marshall Ingram (Hadley, Smith Vocational & Agricultural HS) 3-run double. Northeast countered back with 2 in the bottom of the first. Northeast broke the game open when they exploded for 7 in the 5th. Jack Sullivan (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) and Connor Stick (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) scored twice and Northeast pulled away. Northeast won gold while West took home the Sportsmanship Award presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

WOBURN (November 15, 2024) – The Bay State Games has selected six statewide scholarship recipients for the 2024 Future Leaders Scholarship Program. These student-athletes were selected from a large applicant pool after a process that included committee reviews of all applications and virtual interviews with selected applicants. These future leaders were selected based on their achievements and involvement in academics, community service, athletics, and leadership roles. The Bay State Games Future Leaders Scholarship program was established in 1989 and has since distributed nearly $400,000 in financial aid. Each of these high school seniors will receive a $1,000 scholarship for their first year of college. “Since its inception in 1989, the Future Leaders Scholarship Program has recognized outstanding high school students that excel in the classroom, in the community, and on the field of play,” said Kevin Cummings, Executive Director of the Bay State Games. “We are proud that this program has provided nearly $400,000 in aid to support the continuing education of these well deserving student-athletes that represent all regions of Massachusetts and many different sports.” This year’s six scholarship recipients are Akosua Adu-Gyamfi, Priya Bedard, Shannon Gustin, Keira Manning, Emilia Maria-Babcock, and Amelia Spencer. Akosua Adu-Gyamfi is a resident of Holden and attends the Winchendon School. At school, she plays on the varsity basketball team, where she is an active team leader. She played in the 2024 Bay State Games Girls Basketball Showcase on the Central team and won the DICK’S Sporting Goods Sportsmanship Award. Akosua started a Bible study club at her school and plays the piano. Outside of school, she is a childcare worker at a local elementary school and volunteers at the Akwabba Free Clinic in Worcester. She hopes to continue playing basketball in college while studying criminal justice with hopes of becoming a lawyer. Priya Bedard is a senior at Medway High School. At school, she is captain of the varsity softball team and plays on the varsity soccer and basketball teams. Priya competed in the 2024 Bay State Games Softball Showcase and was awarded the DICK’s Sporting Goods Sportsmanship Award for the Southeast team. She was selected as her school’s representative to attend the MIAA Leadership Conference. At school, Priya is a photographer for the school newspaper and volunteers for Relay for Life. She is currently completing an internship at the Innovation Center Pathways at Milford Regional Hospital. She volunteers at the Medway food pantry. After graduation, Priya plans to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Hartford as a member of the softball team. Shannon Gustin is a senior at Rockland High School. She is ranked #11 in her class, sporting a 4.22 GPA through her junior year. Shannon is the Spirit Chair on the student council, which includes planning inclusion pep rallies, dances, spirit weeks and any other school spirit related event hosted at our school that bring us together as one “Bulldog Nation”. At school, she is also a member of the volleyball team, a founding member of her school’s DECA chapter and Vice President of Career Development, is a feature editor and writer for the RHS Veritas newspaper, and a secretary of Key Club. She was a founding member of the Women’s Empowerment Club at her school, which successfully was able to get feminine hygiene products installed in all the girl’s bathrooms at her school. Shannon is a high school sports and prom dress content creator as well. Shannon also competes in figure skating with the Winterland Skating School and has competed in Bay State Games Figure Skating competitions since 2016. Shannon plans on attending a 4-year university to study marketing and journalism to later work in the sports media field after graduation. Keira Manning is a native of Marlborough and attends the Advanced Math & Science Academy, where she plays field hockey and lacrosse. She is captain of her co-op field hockey team with Marlborough High School and is on the MIAA Student Advisory Committee. Within her school community, she is involved in a variety of clubs, including Leaders of Tomorrow, NHS, and Peer Mediation. She is a member of the Principal’s Council and is a Bay State Games Ambassador. Keira played for the Central team in the Bay State Games Field Hockey Showcase for 3 years. Keira is involved in the community through the Marlborough Public Library as a member of the Teen Advisory Board. She has won several leadership awards and attended leadership conferences all around the county, including being one of the four students from Massachusetts to be selected to attend the National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this past summer. Keira plans to continue playing field hockey at Dickinson College after graduation while studying international studies or pre-law with hopes of attending law school. Emilia Maria-Babcock is a senior at Everett High School. She is ranked #6 in her class of 630 students with a 4.76 GPA. She is captain of the varsity basketball and soccer teams and plays softball at Everett High School. She played in the Bay State Games Girls Basketball Showcase for the Metro team twice, winning a silver medal in 2023 and gold in 2024. Emilia is the president of her class, in NHS and Spanish NHS, a student ambassador, and a member of Key Club. She has been presented with a National Women in Sports Leadership Award. When she’s not on the field or court, you can find Emilia playing the violin in the high school orchestra. Emilia is a youth basketball and softball coach and works as a sailing instructor. She hopes to become a physical therapist. Amelia Spencer is a native of Lynn and Winthrop and attends Winthrop High School. She holds a 4.3 GPA through her junior year. She has been president of her class for two years, is president of the student council, and was the sophomore class videographer. She is also a member of student government, debate club, math club, and wellness club. She is an MIAA Student Ambassador, Morgan’s Message Ambassador, and Bay State Games Ambassador. Athletically, she is captain of her school’s ice hockey and softball teams and played in the Bay State Games Girls Ice Hockey Showcase for 3 years, winning the gold medal each time. She is a Learn to Skate instructor, a Special Olympics volunteer, and completed an internship with the North Shore Navigators. Amelia was one of 4 students from Massachusetts to attend the National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this past summer. In college, Amelia will continue to play NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey and will be studying special education and minoring in nutrition. Her dream job is to become an adaptive physical education teacher.
