Game 1: Southeast v Coastal

In a closely contested match, Southeast's midfielder Fallon Ryan (Hull, Hull HS) showcased her playmaking prowess by setting up both goals for midfielder Sarah Duran (Hull, Hull HS) and forward Elly Thomas (Hull, Hull HS), while Coastal's forward Audrey Thomas (Rochester, Old Rochester Regional HS) proved to be a formidable force, netting both of her team's goals. The thrilling encounter concluded in a 2-2 draw.


Game 2: Northeast v West

West: 9

Northeast: 1

In a dominant display of attacking prowess, West's forwards Hannah Murphy (Monson, Monsoon HS), Gianna Sakowski (Springfield, Minnechaug Regional HS), and Lauren Marjanski (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) each notched two goals, alongside contributions from midfielder Danica Dorozynski (Chicopee, Chicopee Comprehensive HS) and defender Makenna Kennedy (West Springfield, West Springfield HS), securing an emphatic 9-1 victory. Northeast's midfielder Siena Hesbach (Maynard, Maynard HS) scored the consolation goal, with an assist from midfielder Phoebe Whitcomb (Newburyport, Newburyport HS).


Game 3: Metro v Coastal

Coastal: 6

Metro: 0

In a commanding display of offensive showcase, Coastal's forwards Sarah Kelly (Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS), Kaitlyn Coutu (Fall River, BMC Durfee HS), Ava Oliveira (Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS), and Avianna Andrade (North Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS), along with midfielder Ella Choi (Lakeville, Thayer Academy), all found the back of the net, securing a dominant 6-0 victory over Metro.


Game 4: Southeast v Northeast

Southeast: 1

Coastal: 1

In a closely contested match, Southeast's midfielder Sarah Duran (Hull, Hull HS) capitalized on an assist from forward Kate Austirno (Avon, Avon HS) to secure a goal, while Northeast's midfielder Samarah Paiva (Saugus, Saugus HS) showcased a well-earned goal of her own. The game ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.


Game 5: Central v Metro

Central: 6

Metro: 0 

Central dominated from the beginning, as forward Emma Sousa's (East Longmeadow, East Longmeadow HS) early goal set the tone. Midfielder Kiana Ramos (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) notched two of her own, accompanied by a goal from forward Ella Santaniello (Westfield, Westfield HS), leading to a commanding 6-0 victory for Central. 

Friday, July 7
Game 6: Northeast v Coastal

Coastal 6-

Coastal's three killer forwards, Ava Oliveira (Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS), Audrey Thomas (Rochester, Old Rochester Regional HS), and Kaitlyn Coutu (Fall River, BMC Durfee HS), showcased their scoring prowess with a pair of goals each, leading their team to a commanding 6-1 victory. Despite Northeast's effort, midfielder Caitlyn Downey's (Newburyport, Newburyport HS) lone goal was not sufficient to overcome Coastal's dominant performance on the field.


Game 7: Metro v West

West:11

Metro: 2

West demonstrated their depth as six different players found the back of the net, with forward Lauren Marjanski (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) leading the charge with four goals, securing a dominant 11-2 victory. Metro's forward Yelsa Garcia (Everett, Everett HS) was a standout for her team, scoring both of their goals. 

Game 8: Northeast v Central

Central: 2

Northeast: 0

Central emerged as the winners in this match, with forward Bianca Facchetti (Longmeadow, Minnechaug Regional HS) and midfielder Kiana Ramos (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) each finding the net to secure a 2-0 win.

Game 9: Southeast v West

Southeast: 2

West: 1

In a tightly contested match, Southeast clinched a narrow 2-1 victory thanks to midfielder Kate McLaughlin's (Sharon, Noble and Greenough) goal, while West's forward Hannah Murphy (Monson, Monsoon HS) managed to score their solitary goal.

Game 10: Central v Coastal

Coastal: 2

Central: 0

In a fiercely contested and physical match, Coastal emerged victorious with forward Ava Oliveira's (Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS) decisive goal, securing a 2-0 win. 


Saturday, July 8
Game 11: Southeast v Central

Southeast: 3

Central: 0

Southeast dominated the match, with midfielder Sarah Duran (Hull, Hull HS) and forward Elly Thomas (Hull, Hull HS) leading the charge and finding the net.

Game 12: Metro v Northeast

Northeast: 3

Metro: 0

In a commanding performance, Northeast took control of the game and secured a triumphant victory with three goals, one of which was credited to forward Gianna Parker (Lynn, Lynn Classical HS).

Game 13: Central v West

West: 1

Central: 0

In a tightly contested match, West's forward Hannah Murphy (Monson, Monsoon HS) found the back of the net with an assist from midfielder Lilly Jaeger (Enfield, Enfield HS), playing a crucial role in their hard-fought victory.

Game 14: Southeast v Metro

Southeast: 3

Metro: 0

Southeast displayed their dominance on the field, led by midfielder Danielle Lomuscio (Wrentham, King Philip Regional HS), who contributed with a goal and an assist, while Sarah Duran (Hull, Hull HS) also made her mark with a goal.

Game 15: West v Coastal

Coastal: 1

West: 0

In an intense and closely-fought game, Coastal's forward Audrey Thomas’s (Rochester, Old Rochester Regional HS) goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory. 


Sunday, July 9
Bronze Medal Game: Central v West

West: 3

Central: 2

In the bronze medal game, Central and West battled fiercely in a close match. Central's forward Bianca Facchetti (Londmeadow, Minnechaug Regional HS) opened the scoring with an assist from forward Kalli White (Granby, Granby HS), holding the lead at halftime. However, West fought back in the second half, as forward Gianna Sakowski (Springfield, Minnechaug Regional HS) netted a goal off a corner kick. Central responded with a goal of their own from forward Sydney Reed (West Springfield, West Springfield HS), assisted by midfielder Sabina Mackechnie (East Longmeadow, East Longmeadow HS). With tensions high, West was awarded a penalty kick, which forward Lauren Marjanski (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) converted confidently. In the final moments of the match, West midfielder Allison Fleury (South Hadley, South Hadley HS) sealed the victory with an assist from Marjanski (South Hadley, South Hadley HS), leading West to a thrilling comeback win.

Gold Medal Game: Southeast v Coastal

Coastal: 1

Southeast: 0

In a highly competitive gold medal match, both Coastal and Southeast displayed tremendous determination throughout the game. Coastal's forward Avianna Andrade (North Dartmouth, Dartmouth HS) broke the deadlock with a crucial goal, assisted by Kaitlyn Coutu (Fall River, BMC Durfee HS), securing a narrow 1-0 victory. Despite Southeast's late efforts to equalize, Coastal's defense held strong, earning them the gold medal under the guidance of their first-year Bay State Games head coach, Hayden Tavares.

Fabian Ardila is the Bay State Games Southeast Girls Volleyball Head Coach, Owner of MGA Volleyball, and an Assistant Coach of the Women's Volleyball team at Babson College. Fabian has many years coaching at the high school, club, and college level and sat down with the Bay State Games Ambassadors to discuss the college recruiting process.

WOBURN (November 15, 2024) – The Bay State Games has selected six statewide scholarship recipients for the 2024 Future Leaders Scholarship Program. These student-athletes were selected from a large applicant pool after a process that included committee reviews of all applications and virtual interviews with selected applicants. These future leaders were selected based on their achievements and involvement in academics, community service, athletics, and leadership roles. The Bay State Games Future Leaders Scholarship program was established in 1989 and has since distributed nearly $400,000 in financial aid. Each of these high school seniors will receive a $1,000 scholarship for their first year of college. “Since its inception in 1989, the Future Leaders Scholarship Program has recognized outstanding high school students that excel in the classroom, in the community, and on the field of play,” said Kevin Cummings, Executive Director of the Bay State Games. “We are proud that this program has provided nearly $400,000 in aid to support the continuing education of these well deserving student-athletes that represent all regions of Massachusetts and many different sports.” This year’s six scholarship recipients are Akosua Adu-Gyamfi, Priya Bedard, Shannon Gustin, Keira Manning, Emilia Maria-Babcock, and Amelia Spencer. Akosua Adu-Gyamfi is a resident of Holden and attends the Winchendon School. At school, she plays on the varsity basketball team, where she is an active team leader. She played in the 2024 Bay State Games Girls Basketball Showcase on the Central team and won the DICK’S Sporting Goods Sportsmanship Award. Akosua started a Bible study club at her school and plays the piano. Outside of school, she is a childcare worker at a local elementary school and volunteers at the Akwabba Free Clinic in Worcester. She hopes to continue playing basketball in college while studying criminal justice with hopes of becoming a lawyer. Priya Bedard is a senior at Medway High School. At school, she is captain of the varsity softball team and plays on the varsity soccer and basketball teams. Priya competed in the 2024 Bay State Games Softball Showcase and was awarded the DICK’s Sporting Goods Sportsmanship Award for the Southeast team. She was selected as her school’s representative to attend the MIAA Leadership Conference. At school, Priya is a photographer for the school newspaper and volunteers for Relay for Life. She is currently completing an internship at the Innovation Center Pathways at Milford Regional Hospital. She volunteers at the Medway food pantry. After graduation, Priya plans to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Hartford as a member of the softball team. Shannon Gustin is a senior at Rockland High School. She is ranked #11 in her class, sporting a 4.22 GPA through her junior year. Shannon is the Spirit Chair on the student council, which includes planning inclusion pep rallies, dances, spirit weeks and any other school spirit related event hosted at our school that bring us together as one “Bulldog Nation”. At school, she is also a member of the volleyball team, a founding member of her school’s DECA chapter and Vice President of Career Development, is a feature editor and writer for the RHS Veritas newspaper, and a secretary of Key Club. She was a founding member of the Women’s Empowerment Club at her school, which successfully was able to get feminine hygiene products installed in all the girl’s bathrooms at her school. Shannon is a high school sports and prom dress content creator as well. Shannon also competes in figure skating with the Winterland Skating School and has competed in Bay State Games Figure Skating competitions since 2016. Shannon plans on attending a 4-year university to study marketing and journalism to later work in the sports media field after graduation. Keira Manning is a native of Marlborough and attends the Advanced Math & Science Academy, where she plays field hockey and lacrosse. She is captain of her co-op field hockey team with Marlborough High School and is on the MIAA Student Advisory Committee. Within her school community, she is involved in a variety of clubs, including Leaders of Tomorrow, NHS, and Peer Mediation. She is a member of the Principal’s Council and is a Bay State Games Ambassador. Keira played for the Central team in the Bay State Games Field Hockey Showcase for 3 years. Keira is involved in the community through the Marlborough Public Library as a member of the Teen Advisory Board. She has won several leadership awards and attended leadership conferences all around the county, including being one of the four students from Massachusetts to be selected to attend the National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this past summer. Keira plans to continue playing field hockey at Dickinson College after graduation while studying international studies or pre-law with hopes of attending law school. Emilia Maria-Babcock is a senior at Everett High School. She is ranked #6 in her class of 630 students with a 4.76 GPA. She is captain of the varsity basketball and soccer teams and plays softball at Everett High School. She played in the Bay State Games Girls Basketball Showcase for the Metro team twice, winning a silver medal in 2023 and gold in 2024. Emilia is the president of her class, in NHS and Spanish NHS, a student ambassador, and a member of Key Club. She has been presented with a National Women in Sports Leadership Award. When she’s not on the field or court, you can find Emilia playing the violin in the high school orchestra. Emilia is a youth basketball and softball coach and works as a sailing instructor. She hopes to become a physical therapist. Amelia Spencer is a native of Lynn and Winthrop and attends Winthrop High School. She holds a 4.3 GPA through her junior year. She has been president of her class for two years, is president of the student council, and was the sophomore class videographer. She is also a member of student government, debate club, math club, and wellness club. She is an MIAA Student Ambassador, Morgan’s Message Ambassador, and Bay State Games Ambassador. Athletically, she is captain of her school’s ice hockey and softball teams and played in the Bay State Games Girls Ice Hockey Showcase for 3 years, winning the gold medal each time. She is a Learn to Skate instructor, a Special Olympics volunteer, and completed an internship with the North Shore Navigators. Amelia was one of 4 students from Massachusetts to attend the National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this past summer. In college, Amelia will continue to play NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey and will be studying special education and minoring in nutrition. Her dream job is to become an adaptive physical education teacher.
