Winter Games Dates Locked Up for 2011

The 2011 Bay State Winter Games will be held January 28-30 in the northern Berkshires. Registration will open on October 25 for all sports.

Bay State Winter Games Wrap Up 25th Year

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2010 Bay State Winter Games in Northern Berkshire county of Massachusetts. The 25th anniversary was an amazing event, and we can't say enough good things about all the people who helped make this possible including the athletes, volunteers and facilities.

We hope to see everyone back next year as we start working towards our next quarter century of memories.

25th Winter Games Conclude on Sunday

With alpine skiing in the books, figure skating and masters ice hockey take center stage on Sunday. Ice hockey will hold a couple more pool games for the Over 40 division and then finish up with the gold medal games for both divisions early this afternoon in North Adams. The figure skating competition at Williams College wraps up at 6pm tonight, but not before a slate full of action.

Skate Show and Alpine Skiing Highlight Second Day
Award Ceremony

Action has come to an end in the second day of competition at the 2010 Winter Games. A ton of metals were distributed at figure skating and alpine skiing.

All the results from Friday and Saturday can be found on the Winter Games Results website.

The Games finish up Sunday with figure skating beginning at 8am at Williams College.

Day Two of Winter Games Underway
Award Ceremony

The second day of figure skating action has begun at Williams College. Skaters took the ice Saturday morning at 8am. Figure skating action will continue nonstop throughout the day until 6pm.

The Bay State Skate Figure Skating Show will follow the competition at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the door of the ice rink at Williams.

Alpine skiing and masters ice hockey are also taking place throughtout the day.

Golden Start to Winter Games' Silver Anniversary
Award Ceremony

The 2010 Bay State Winter Games kicked off its 25th annual event on Friday morning with USFS Figure Skating. Rebecca Jacobs of Natick (pictured above) was one of the Games' first gold medal winners. ISI Figure Skating will follow this afternoon.

Alpine Skiing Competition Spots Remain Open

Registration is still open for the 2010 Bay State Winter Games Alpine Skiing competition. The two-run, giant slalom race begins at 9:30am on Saturday, January 23 at Bousquet Ski Area in Pittsfield, MA. This year’s competition features middle school, high school, open and masters divisions.

Skiers can register online for $50. The fee includes entry into the competition, a Bay State Games T-shirt and an all-day lift ticket for limited access to Bousquet Ski Area. Registration will remain open up until and including the morning of the competition. Competitors can sign up onsite, but please arrive at Bousquet no later than 7:30am on Saturday to ensure a spot in the race.

Skate Show Tickets Still Available

The Bay State Skate Figure Skating Show will take place Saturday, January 23 at 7:30pm at the Lansing Chapman Rink at Williams College. The show features national, state and regional skating stars, as well as Bay State Games medal winners.

Tickets are $10 and still available at the following locations:

North Adams City Hall
North Adams Veterans Memorial Rink
Smith Brothers-McAndrews Insurance in Adams

Figure Skaters Shine Among Scholarship Winners

This summer, six student athletes from around the commonwealth were awarded $2,000 college scholarships, and among the winners were two figure skaters.

Tegan O'Neill and Emily Theurer were the first figure skaters in the two decade-long history of the scholarship.

Tegan O’Neill: Stamford (VT), Miss Hall’s School
O’Neill has won numerous gold medals as a figure skater in the Bay State Winter Games. The Stamford, VT resident is a high honors student in the top five percent of her class. She is also a member of the Cum Laude Society, school secretary on the Judicial Committee, editor of the school newspaper, and a contributor to the Big/Little Sister program.

Emily Theurer: Burlington, Burlington High School             
Theurer is a straight A student who ranks third in her class of 250 and is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. She is a decorated figure skater, spending several hours a day, six days a week, on the ice practicing and as an instructor. Despite her busy schedule, she has found time to give back as president of the Community Service Club and a peer mentor. She also recently had the opportunity to travel to Asia as part of the Pathway to China program.

Team Needed for Masters Ice Hockey Tournament

One spot remains open in the over 40 year old division of the 2010 Bay State Winter Games Masters Ice Hockey tournament set to take place January 22-24 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in North Adams, MA.

High School Spirit Program Extended to Winter Games

The High School Spirit Program, which annually rewards Massachusetts high schools with more than $5,000 in grants, has been extended to Winter Games participants.

When signing up for the Winter Games, be sure to choose a high school, whether it be yours, your child's or simply one in the area that you live. Each vote goes towards a tally for that school. After the Summer Games in July, nine schools will be awarded grants as a result of these votes.

Registration for both USFS and ISI Figure Skating closes on Friday, December 11.

The 25th anniversary of the Bay State Winter Games takes place January 22-24 in Northern Berkshire County. The figure skating competition will once again be held at Williams College.
